Young Adults Use Training to Become Advocates for Comprehensive Sex Education

With the election ending only a couple of weeks ago, Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast wasted no time training 12 new public policy advocates at its Young Activist Advocacy Institute, which was held on Saturday, November 15th in Fort Lauderdale.

The training seized upon the momentum generated by the election and encouraged advocates to continue working hard for the issues that are truly important to them.  As the participants discussed Florida’s status as having the 6th highest teen pregnancy rate in the country despite accepting the 2nd largest amount of abstinence-only funding, ensuring Florida’s teens have access to comprehensive sex education emerged as the most prominent concern for the young adults. To demonstrate their support for comprehensive sex education, the participants provided testimony about the importance of making informed, safe and healthy decisions, and created video statements urging the public to support the Healthy Teens Campaign for sex education.
