Planned Parenthood Programs:
La Promesa: 20% of Spanish speakers living in Latino communities fail to seek medical treatment due to language barriers. Latino populations are also more likely to be under- or uninsured than other minority groups, while Latino females are the least likely to receive vital preventative services-such as screening for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and sexually transmitted diseases-and have the highest growing rate of teen pregnancy nationally. These factors significantly compromise healthcare quality and accessibility for Hispanics.
Teen Time: Youth-development programs that address the whole person and increase educational aspirations can markedly reduce risk-taking behavior and adolescent pregnancy. Teen Time® provides a complete package of healthy lifestyle resources to adolescents.
ARMs: Adult Role Models (ARMs) is a proven train-the-trainer program that brings increased awareness of these issues to local communities of color. By teaching parent volunteers to provide instruction and outreach to their peers, ARMs fosters the development of leadership skills, an understanding of sexual health issues, improved parent-child communication, and an awareness of Planned Parenthood's services, mission, and advocacy efforts.
